Sonamarg, meaning “Meadow of Gold”, is one of Kashmir’s most stunning hill stations, located about 80 km from Srinagar in the Ganderbal district. Perched at an altitude of 2,730 meters (8,960 ft), Sonamarg is surrounded by snow-clad Himalayan peaks, alpine forests, and glacial rivers.
It is the gateway to the famous Zoji La Pass leading to Ladakh, and also serves as the base camp for the Amarnath Yatra. Known for its meadows covered in golden-hued flowers during summer and its snowy landscapes in winter, Sonamarg is truly a year-round destination.
